5 Makeup Mistakes That You Should Avoid At All Times

Updated: Aug 8, 2020

We try our best to prevent fine lines, wrinkles and uneven skin, but we don’t often consider that our makeup might be prolonging those issues. When you end up making your foundation looking dry and cakey, and even turning grey in some areas of your face, it’s a sign that you might be making some mistakes in applying your makeup! From the wrong shade of foundation to not covering up dark circles properly, here are some tips which can fix your makeup routine and prevent some of the major problems!

Makeup Artist Cherry Deol Shared 5 Makeup mistakes that you should avoid at all times:

Mistake #1: Not prepping your face before the base!

The first and the foremost thing is to prepare your skin before applying any kind of makeup. Most of the people skip this step due to which the base does not set properly on their skin, after a while the base turns cakey and dry patches appear on your face! In order to avoid that, the magic is to prep the face by using a water/gel based moisturiser (if your skin is dry/oily/combination). You can even go for a cream based moisturiser, whatever suits you. Because the key is to hydrate the skin before applying makeup! Once you have done that, leave your skin to absorb the moisturiser and get hydrated, give it 3-5 minutes before proceeding to the next step.

Mistake #2: Not using a Primer

Now, the above mentioned mistake is number 1 priority when it comes to getting a flawless base, BUT the second step is also very important. That is, applying the right primer according to your skin type. Always always always make sure you apply a primer before applying your makeup as this is what will protect your skin as well as make the base wrinkle free and prevent it from getting patchy. There are various primers in the market that you can buy according to your skin type. For dry skin, you can go for a cream based primer, and for oily skin, a silicon based primer is advised. There are also pore minimising primers available if you have bigger pores, they do work when applying in the right way!

Mistake #3: Choosing the wrong foundation

Do you ever wonder why the foundation on your skin looks dark? The reason is choosing the wrong shade of foundation! Always make sure you do a patch test on your cheeks above your jawline to match the perfect shade. Also, always buy the foundation according to your skin type! There are various brands which make the foundations specifically for dry/oily skin. Check with the experts where you buy the product from! They can always tell you the right foundation according to your skin type.

Mistake #4: Not colour correcting

This is a very important step that should not be avoided in order to prevent dark circles and discolouration around the mouth. Often we apply foundation without applying any kind of colour corrector or concealer which makes the dark circles more prominent and the area around the mouth looking grey. Always make sure you’re using at least 2 shades darker coloured concealer/corrector under your eyes and around the mouth, also make sure to apply this on any blemishes/acne marks/dark spots on your face followed by your foundation routine.

Mistake #5: You’re not locking your foundation

The last but not the least, locking your foundation with a setting powder! The final step of achieving that non-oily looking skin is to lock your base with a translucent setting powder, all you have to do is apply it evenly on your face where ever you’ve applied your foundation. Make sure to cover under your eyes as that’s the most important part!

That’s it! Follow these 5 simple rules by Delhi Makeup Artist and you won’t find yourself in the cakey foundation situation!
